Currently SAU offers Masters & PhD programmes in Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Economics, International Relations, Legal Studies and Sociology.

Yes. The degrees provided by the South Asian University are recognized in all the member countries of SAARC.

For admission to Master’s & PhD programmes in Economics, Sociology, International Relations and Legal Studies, the minimum prescribed eligibility criteria is 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the qualifying degree. For admission to Master’s & PhD programmes in Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology and Computer Science, the minimum prescribed eligibility percentage is 55% marks or an equivalent grade in the qualifying degree.For specific eligibility, please see the respective Master or PhD programme in the admission announcement.

Candidates seeking admission to the Master’s programmes have to take an online computer based Entrance test. The syllabus and pattern for the test for all the programmes can be accessed from the university website.

For PhD, candidates are admitted through two modes: (i) Those having any national fellowship or funded by any government agency or are in employment will be exempted from the entrance test. They will be shortlisted directly for the interviews based on their qualification and, in some cases, on Research Proposal / SOP / Reference letters. (ii) Through an entrance test followed by interview. The interview for candidates from outside India can be held through Skype or similar platform.

The above induction of students (Masters as well as PhD) is for the nationals of SAARC countries. For non-SAARC nationals, there is no entrance test. They will be shortlisted directly based on their educational qualifications and CV.

The university offers on-campus housing for both master’s and doctoral students. The new hostel residence offers around 400 units of partially furnished shared accommodation in six different towers. There are several common areas, such as study rooms, common rooms, and multipurpose rooms. We also have recreational areas such as a lounge for gatherings, a fitness centre for workouts, and playgrounds. Admitted students’ spouses/children or other family members are not provided with hostel accommodations. All students who stay in the hostel must strictly adhere to the hostel rules. The hostel fee for students from the SAARC region is US $60 per academic semester. Students must vacate the hostel as soon as their programme is completed and/or they are unable to continue their studies. During the summer and winter vacations, master’s students must vacate their accommodations. According to the University Regulations, doctoral students will be provided with hostel facilities for a maximum of five years. The hostel facilities at SAU are limited, and allocation is strictly subject to availability. If hostel accommodations are not available, students must make their own arrangements. SAU will not provide any compensation in lieu of hostel accommodation under any circumstances for the duration of a student’s enrolment in the programme.

Applications are invited only through online mode. You have to register on the university website in order to apply online. The entrance test fee is USD 10 or INR 800 or equivalent. It is strongly recommended that the fee should be paid through online methods such as internet banking, debit/credit card or any other gateway available while submitting the application. However, if for some reason, online payment cannot be made, option of off-line payment is also available.

The admission process has already started. The last date for applying for admissions this year is 31 march 2023.

If you don’t belong to any of the SAARC countries, you do not need to take the Entrance Test. When you click on link “Apply Now” provided on the admissions page, you will be prompted to fill out the relevant information and will be asked to upload your documents. Each application will be scrutinized by the concerned faculty to determine the eligibility of the candidate and the decision of the University will be final in this regard. The last date of applying is 31 march 2023.

The current teacher student ratio at SAU is approximately 1:6.

The university doesn’t have any undergraduate programme as yet.

SAU has generous Scholarship and Financial Support options. However, the rules are under revision at present. Scholarship and SAU freeships Guidelines for session 2023-24 are available in Admission Notice.

All scholarships are merit-based, depending on your rank in the Entrance Test . However, a limited number of freeships are available to students who cannot afford to pay the fees. Such students can apply on the prescribed application form after joining the University along with all supporting documents.

A limited number of campus jobs are available under the Wor–Earn programme. You can apply for these jobs on a monthly basis after joining the university.

All students, whether from within India or outside, are treated as equals in all matters, whether academic or administrative. In order to promote integration amongst students living in the hostel, the university has a policy of having students from different countries share accommodation.

SAU degrees are recognized by all SAARC member countries. Job opportunities depend, among other things, on the grades students get and other attributes you pick up while at the University. Many SAU alumni are well placed in universities, colleges, research organisations, think tanks, etc. across the region while many are pursuing higher studies around the world.

The university provides a bed, a table, and a chair in the hostel room. Students have to bring their own mattress, bed linen, and blanket/quilt. The Delhi winter can be quite cold.
